Olympic Track & Field
The Olympic Track & Field dates back to the ancient games. Most of these events involved running. In the modern Olympics, runners are assigned lanes to start the race. Distance can vary from 100 meters to 3000 meters. One event, the Steeplechase has competitors run a distance race and have to jump over a large hurdle with a water hazard. In addition to the numerous running events, the field events traditionally take place inside of the track. A few of these events are the shot put, discus, pole vault, and long jump. Track & Field is one of the most popular sports during the Summer games. |
